I think the main reason games are being left incomplete is not because of a simple reason of length or diffculty.

I believe the reason is the expectation of a game becomes predictable and tiresome. The younger you are, the more you enjoy something that is predictable. Teletubbies anyone?

Agree wholeheartidly with what you're saying. I find gaming nowadays a very different experience to how I did as a kid.

Obviously this is down to a number of reasons and who is to say one way is right or not howver the games I find the most interesting are those that do not provide easy steps. What I really struggle with gaming wise are those games when you die and there is no penalty for dying.

I can remember quite a few games in recent times where literally no difference is had and it is this routine experience that is so bland.

I agree that the way forward has to be adaptive difficulty. The reason I still like sports games particularly in groups against human opponents is that it adds an air of unpredictability and is actually I think the reason why online multiplier works. The developer creates the environment and the people add the variety and difficulty.

I do think though that the trend is only likely to get worse as the wii way of lifestyle gaming becomes more and more to the fore.

Simplicity is key and why I constantly return to the more simpler experiences like Diner Dash being one example that I return to time and again.
